On Wednesday we arrived in Hill City South DAkota. We quickly jumped into the car and headed for the needles highway which is filled with incredible rock formations, one lane roads and one lane tunnels!!!
The journey waas a 5 hour trip through this rocky highway and then down to the plains of Custer Park where hundreds of buffalo and prairie dogs hang out! We saw such beauty everywhere we looked!
We then came across a pack of donkeys that have made their home in the park and tNeedles highway and Mount Rushmorehey walked along the street stopping tourists for attention. Duke was so excited to see all the wildlife! One donkey even came to Dana's open window and demanded some love!
By the time we got to Rushmore it was 7 pm. We had just enough time to hike the presidential trail around the sculpture and make it back for the lighting ceremony. The patriotism was high and it was very moving!
As we drove away and drive down the highway you could see the faces light up the night! It was beautiful!
